One of the leading journalists of the country and founder of the well- known channel Republic TV Arnab Goswami resigned from the Editors Guild of India during the LIVE debate on the mob lynching done in Maharashtra, yesterday.

During the editorial conference Goswami accused Shekhar Gupta the president of the guild on ruining the credibility of the organization and announced his resignation on the LIVE television.

The editor in chief remarked the Guild as a “self- serving organization” and targeting  president Shekhar Gupta, Arnab said, “I have been a member of the Editors Guild of India for a long time and I, on LIVE television, resign for its absolute compromise on editorial ethics, for being an organization for operation only for personal interests. I accuse you Shekhar Gupta of leading the compromise on journalism for not speaking on incidents like this, he further added

“The day Shekhar Gupta has the courage to speak up against the fake news during COVID-19, and then the guild will have some value. Otherwise the group is just of only has-beens who have refused to take a position of issues that matter.”

The incident held in Palgarh, Maharashtra where three people were beaten to death including two sages and a driver by the mob thinking them to be thieves must be mentioned here as this was the ongoing matter of debate in the editorial conference and Arnab therefore claimed to quit as the editorial board of The Editors guild wasn’t able to bring out the true nature of the story.

Goswami even questioned that, “ If this would have happened from in a state run from BJP, and, instead of Hindus and let me be very direct about it , they were from any minority community would Naseeruddin Shah, Aparna Sen, Ramchandra Guha, Siddharth Varadhrajan, and the  award vapsi gang, would they have gone berserk today, ?”

Such announcement made by Goswami who started of his career from The Telegraph back in 90s can be seen of urging importance as it hits on the overlooking of the matter by the organization.

Extremist on either side must not be entertained.. and here in this case Arnab’s journalism too is always inclined on a side.
